A Product Owner?
Vision and Strategy
The CPO is responsible for setting the vision and strategy for the product. They define what the product should be, who it's for, and how it will provide value. This vision guides the work of the development team and ensures that the product aligns with the company's overall goals.
Roadmap and Prioritization
In a startup, resources are limited. The CPO is responsible for prioritizing features and tasks based on their potential impact on the business. This helps to ensure that the team is always working on the most valuable tasks.
Customer Advocate
The CPO often serves as the voice of the customer within the startup. They work to understand the needs and desires of the customer and ensure that these are reflected in the product. This helps balance the roadmap between what the team wants to build and what the customer actually needs.
Communication
The CPO is often the bridge between the development team and the rest of the company. They ensure that the team has the information they need to build the product and that the rest of the company understands what the product is and how it works. In an early stage startup, the CPO also assumes the role of a project manager so you don't need to hire one.
Agile Practices
Whether your team runs on Kanban or Scrum or, as most often the case, somewhere in between, the CPO plays a key role in managing the product backlog, defining user stories, and accepting completed work. This helps to ensure that the development process is efficient and effective.

Most of our CPOs have been through fundraising, multiple exits, building out companies from 0 to IPO and all the milestones in between that you would want your CPO to have experience with.

No Selling
Super thin margins (vs ~70% of a typical agency) - just enough to keep us running. If we accidentally make a profit, we put it in an angel fund and reinvest back into startups.
This non-profit approach means we have nothing to sell you, but so much to offer.
Proven Track Record
No company is perfect and we don't pretend to be, but whereas a typical agency has a ~10% success rate (where everyone is happy and the deliverables are exactly what they should have been), we've lost only 3 clients in 6+ years.
And we're not happy about it, but we're open about it and after each, we've made our processes better and better.
